animals against empire
I’ve been thinking about stories of animals disrupting business as usual. It brings me deep comfort to stumble across a headline informing me that some bird flock somewhere has shat where it wasn’t supposed to and messed up Border Patrol communications, some dog has gotten their human out of jail, some owl has disrupted a police car. There’s something joyful about remembering that even though those in power harness animals and ecologies for their own aims—even though there are schools for police dogs and governments training birds to act as drones—life in its abundant, mundane, disorganized forms often disrupts the elaborately conceived power of the state. I’ve started an archive of these moments for my enjoyment and yours; please feel free to send me links or add to the channel if you’re on are.na.
